“A New Face for a Special Place.”

The residents of Bexley and our new situation with attracting businesses will determine the issues and dilemmas facing the city in the upcoming election.  I intend on visiting every household, business and organization in Bexley to learn the concerns and hopes of each citizen of this special place to live.  Until then, here are some issues that have come up so far on which I can offer input:

  • Bexley currently grossly overspends out of its General Revenue Fund.  As a low-budget film producer, trimming budgets is my business.  I will offer creative and innovative solutions that won’t hinder development.
  • Bexley is looking to improve the corridors in the North and South corners with the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) and the Southwest Master Plan.  However, very little input is heard from residents in those areas in regards to these developments.  An example of this happened in 2005 with the Southwest Master Plan, when NO city officials informed College Avenue residents that their homes were being rezoned for the project.  Instead, residents found out from Capital University administrators. This was a failure of our local government to communicate with the citizens it represented.
  • The businesses Bexley wants to attract to Main Street, particularly in the area affected by the Southwest Master Plan, should reflect the younger community of Capital University students.  As a young, small business owner, I have the ability to find these types of businesses, giving a new face to a special place.  My international experience in The Bahamas and Europe with Overbites Pictures also will help me bring large and local business to the city’s sector.
  • Several communities around the country are saving money by “Going Green”, utilizing alternative energy sources and building eco-friendly city facilities.  I will continue to progress City Hall's recent efforts in researching "Green Building", thus making Bexley a leader in this region for a “Green Movement”.
  • Bexley can do more to relate to international communities as an American “Ambassador Community”. To start this, I will initiate a bike donation program with Andros Island in the Bahamas, an island very close to Bexley High School’s heart, and a sister-city program with Bexley, England, our city’s namesake, similar to the one Columbus has designed with Dresden, Germany.  My connections in both of those countries can make these possible.

Above all, I promise one thing: I will only serve one term as mayor.  I feel members of a community should serve their community as public officials and then move on, and not make careers of their elected positions.  Please check my website for more throughout the election season at www.americanmayor.biz.
